Mission Statement

The mission of the Northwest High Magnet Library Media Center is first and foremost to provide adequate access to information; second, to provide a warm, kind, inviting, and comfortable environment for all students and teachers to learn, grow, and ultimately love reading; third, to actively teach students by partnering with classroom teachers for regular and consistent collaboration; and fourth, to build the foundation for increased student achievement within the school.

Welcome to the Northwest High Magnet Library!

When Northwest High School opened in 1971, the library encompassed 2 floors.  In the backroom was a dumb waiter where the books were transported between the two floors. Since that time, Northwest has grown and the bottom floor of the library is now two computer labs and 2 administrative offices.  Although the library has decreased in size, it is still the hub of the building.  Sitting at the top of a spiral staircase, it is a place where students and teachers come to read, work, and socialize.

Our library opens before school at 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday.  It stays open until 4:00 on Mondays and Wednesdays.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays we offer after school tutoring from 3:00 until 5:00. On Fridays we close at 3:00.

Our library is organized by genres.  The genres we currently have are: Thriller, Realistic Fiction, Relationships, Sports, Mystery, SciFi/Fantasy, Classics, Historical Fiction, and Urban Fiction.  The sections are color-coded so the students can find books they are most interested in. Students can check-out books before and after school, as well as during the day if they have a pass from a teacher.  Books are checked-out for 3 weeks at a time with the option of renewing the book until the student finishes it. We also subscribe to the Omaha World Herald.

We have computers in the library for student use.  They can use these before and after school.  The students can also come in during the day to work on computers as long as they have a pass from a teacher or administrator.

When you visit Northwest, please come up to the library and CHECK US OUT!!!!!!!!
